5 Signs Your Gutters Need Repair Before Hurricane Season
Southeast Texas doesn’t ease into storm season, it arrives all at once. Here’s what to look for on your gutters before the next big rain event.
1. Water spilling over the sides
If water is pouring over the edge instead of into the gutter during a downpour, you’re likely dealing with a clog, an undersized system, or a section that’s pulled out of alignment.
2. Sagging sections
Gutters should run in a straight, slightly pitched line. Visible dips usually mean fasteners have loosened or the fascia behind them has started to soften from trapped moisture.
3. Staining on the fascia or siding
Dark streaks below the gutter line are one of the earliest signs of a leak at a seam or end cap, well before the damage becomes visible from the ground.
4. Pooling water near the foundation
If downspouts aren’t directing water at least a few feet away from the house, you may be looking at a foundation issue down the road rather than just a gutter one.
5. Gutters pulling away from the roofline
This is often a fastener problem, but it can also point to water damage in the fascia board itself. Either way, it’s worth having someone take a look before storm season puts real weight and volume through the system.
